The last week of April, my wife Carol and my Fine Art Rep, Mecca Page and I installed my traveling exhibit, Scraposaurs at The Lewis & Clark Interpretive in Sioux City, IA.
Remembering what a nightmare the shipping of my sculptures to Ames was two weeks before, we were extra diligent in our discussions and planning with the shipping broker for moving the 14 sculptures in my Scraposaurs exhibit.
Despite those efforts, the day before we were to move the sculptures, the shipping broker informed us that both trucks had cancelled! This started a tense and stressful 24 hours of searching for two specialty low-bed trailers and drivers - no easy feat.
We were able to get one truck loaded relatively on time, but had a 9-hour delay for the second truck. We also had to load my trailer with a commissioned sculpture for the L&CI Center, one Scraposaurs sculpture, 14 signs and two concrete pads.
On our 6-hour drive to Sioux City we had a tire blow on the trailer which required a tow truck to help change the tire (because of the weight on the trailer). We arrived at our hotel very late, tired and hungry.
Installation the next day went very well. After completing our installation, we rewarded ourselves with a happy hour and the hotel hot tub.
